“Text me when you’re home” is one of the most underrated sentences in the language.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Four words that ask for nothing and carry a lot. Somebody saying it has decided your safe arrival is their business, and intends to stay slightly awake until they know. That is care in its most practical form, with no performance attached. Most people hear it constantly and never register what it actually is.

Say it to somebody this week and then genuinely wait for the message. And when it gets said to you, answer, even if it is late and you are tired. Two seconds on your end is somebody else’s whole night settling down.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who worries about you getting home safe each night?
