Fake compliments are counterfeit money. Spend enough and nobody takes your real ones either.

Praise only works because it carries information. Hand out enough of it automatically and people learn that your good opinion does not track anything, so the words keep arriving and stop landing. The real loss comes later, when you genuinely admire something and say so and it registers as more of the same. You spent the value of your own approval.
Say fewer and make them specific. Name the actual thing rather than the person in general. Silence is allowed, and it is what makes the compliments you do give mean something.
Do people believe you when you tell them something good?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
