Doing something properly when the sloppy version would pass looks like inefficiency until you notice who gets asked next time. People are constantly making quiet notes about who can be trusted with something that matters, and those notes are built from how you handle things that do not matter. Nobody announces the evaluation. It just shows up later as an opportunity that seemed to come from nowhere.
Find the step you usually skip, the one you have decided does not count, and do it this week. Wipe the counter, check the work, finish the set. Slow once or twice is a real cost, and it is a small one.
Where do you take the slow, correct route nobody times?
