Shortcuts do not remove work, they relocate it. The essay you rushed, the practice you skipped, the conversation you dodged all come back with something added, usually at a worse moment and usually in front of people. It feels like saving because the saving is immediate and the bill is not. Nothing about this is a punishment, it is just the arithmetic catching up with you.

Look at the thing you have been postponing and estimate the real cost of postponing it again. If the later version is worse, do the smaller one now while it is still small.
