Bored is usually just curious with the lights turned off.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Boredom rarely means there is nothing interesting here. Usually it means nothing has been switched on yet, and you are waiting for the interest to arrive from outside rather than going to find it. Almost any subject becomes absorbing at a certain depth. The dull feeling sits right at the surface, which is where most people stop.

Next time you are bored in a class or on a shift, pick the most ordinary object in front of you and ask how it got there. Who decided it should be that way, and why. You are not trying to enjoy it, only testing whether attention was the missing part.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

The last time you felt bored, what were you avoiding starting?
