Every guitarist you love sounded like a dying cat for the first three months. They just kept playing.

The beginning of any instrument sounds bad, and there is no version where it does not. What separates people who play from people who used to own a guitar is staying through the part with no reward in it. When you listen to anyone good, you are hearing the far end of that stretch. The early recordings do not exist.

Give whatever you are starting ninety days before you allow any verdict. Practice where it bothers nobody, so the noise is not a reason to stop. Expect it to sound wrong the whole time, because that is what it is supposed to sound like.
