Nobody’s born knowing how to parallel park. Everybody who can just survived being bad at it first.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Anyone who does a thing smoothly once did it badly in front of other people. You only ever see the finished version, so competence looks like a trait somebody has rather than a phase somebody survived. The awkward middle part is not a sign you picked wrong, it is the actual mechanism, and there is no version of the process that skips it.

When you catch yourself thinking you are not built for something, check how long you have really been bad at it. Two weeks is not evidence. Give the awkward stretch a proper run before you decide anything about yourself.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Are you still bad at something everybody learns eventually?
