Getting laughed at for mispronouncing a word is the tuition for speaking two languages.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Speaking a second language out loud means being wrong in public regularly, and the laughter is the fee. It stings, and it is temporary, while the ability you are buying lasts the rest of your life. Everybody fluent in more than one language went through the same stretch of sounding silly, including the people laughing.

Keep speaking before you are ready, since that is the only way the accent and the confidence arrive. Ask people to correct you rather than be polite. And notice which rooms make it safe to be bad at something, because those are the rooms to stay in.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Would you keep speaking if someone laughed at your accent?
