Trends go sour faster than milk. Base your identity on stuff with a longer shelf date.

REFLECTION
Trends are built to expire, because something everybody has stops doing the job it was picked up for. Building an identity on them means rebuilding yourself every eighteen months and feeling faintly ridiculous about the previous version. Things with a longer shelf life are duller to describe: what you make, how you treat people, what you know how to do.
Keep enjoying the trends, since they are fun and cost very little. Just make sure that if all of it vanished tomorrow there would still be something recognisably you left standing.
Did you build part of yourself around a passing trend?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
