A goal is a great reason to get out of bed. Just don’t let it become the only one.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

One goal carrying all your motivation works well until something happens to the goal. Then a single injury, rejection or change of plan takes out your entire reason for getting up. Goals are also finite: they finish, and the morning after you finish one is famously strange if nothing else was holding the day together.

Name two reasons to get up that have nothing to do with the big one. A person you like seeing, something you are curious about, work that is interesting on its own. Keep them alive while things are going well, because they are hard to build from scratch on a bad week.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What happens to you if that one goal disappears?
