If you only work hard when someone’s watching, you’re working for them, not you.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Effort that only appears with an audience is being paid in approval, which means the person deciding how hard you work is whoever happens to be in the room. That also caps what you get out of it, because the parts that actually build skill are usually the ones nobody watches.

Do one full session this week with nobody there and nothing posted about it. Same effort as if the coach were standing over you. It will feel oddly pointless for the first ten minutes, and that feeling is the thing to notice, because it tells you who you have been working for.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

How hard do you work when nobody checks on you?
