Asking for help takes trust, and the people with the least of it ask the least. If you learned early that needing something made you a burden, you get good at handling things alone and bad at saying when you cannot. From outside that reads as strength. Up close it is often someone running low with no way to say so.
Go to the friend who never asks and offer something specific. Bring food, or sit with them while they do the hard thing, or say you noticed they have been quiet. Specific is much easier to accept than an open offer.
