Home-cooked meals taste better because someone gave up an hour of their day for them.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

What you are tasting is partly attention. Someone chose the meal, stood there while it cooked, and spent an hour they could have spent on anything else, and you can feel that even if the food is nothing special. Effort given freely is rare enough that it registers. That is why the same dish out of a packet is not the same dish.

If someone feeds you this week, say something specific about it rather than a general thanks. Better still, take a turn: make something simple for the people you live with and notice how differently the table sits. The hour is the gift, not the recipe.
