The part of a building you’re proudest of is never the foundation, and it’s the only part that couldn’t be skipped.

Parts that carry everything are the ones nobody photographs. A foundation is invisible, expensive, slow and completely unrewarding to build, and it is also the only element of the whole structure that cannot be left out or improved later. Everything visible depends on something that will never be admired. Pride and necessity point at different things almost every time.

Work out what the foundation is in the thing you care about: the fitness, the basics, the sleep, the relationships you never post about. Give one of them an hour this week even though nothing will show. That is what makes the visible part possible later.
