Waiting for an apology that isn’t coming is renting space to someone who moved out.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Holding out for words someone will never say keeps them living in your head at your expense. The apology becomes the condition for your own peace, which hands the timing of that peace to the person least likely to give it. Some will not say it, not because you did not deserve it, but because they cannot look at what they did.

You are allowed to close the account without the payment. Decide that it was wrong, that it was not your fault, and that you are done waiting. Say it out loud to a friend, or write it down, and let the room go back to you.
