Some arguments with your parents are better had tomorrow, when nobody’s hungry and nobody’s yelling.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

The same conversation can go two completely different ways depending on when it happens. Hunger, tiredness, and a bad day already in progress do most of the damage that later gets blamed on the topic itself. Waiting is not avoiding, as long as you come back to it, and it gives the discussion a chance of going somewhere.

Next time it starts heating up, say you want to talk about it and name a time: after dinner, tomorrow after school. Then keep that appointment. The topic will still be there, and both of you will be better equipped to handle it.
