A plan for your money is not a restriction from somebody else, it is an agreement between the calm version of you and the tired one who comes later. The limit is doing a favor across time. Without it, every purchase gets decided by whoever you happen to be in that moment.

Write down three numbers this week: what comes in, what has to go out, and what is left. Give the leftover a job before the week starts. It is easier to follow a plan you made than to argue with yourself in a shop.
