Parents build a picture of your future out of what they know, what scared them, and what they wish somebody had pushed them toward. It usually comes from real love, which is exactly what makes it hard to set down. You end up disagreeing with people who are genuinely on your side, and it feels like ingratitude instead of a difference of opinion.

You can keep the care and leave the itinerary. Say what you actually want in plain words, once, without needing them to agree that same day. Then keep going, because the disagreement usually shrinks as they watch you handle it.
