Your past isn’t public record. You decide who gets to read the file.

Being open gets treated as the same thing as being honest, and it is not. Honest means you do not lie about who you are. Open means anybody who asks receives the full history, which is a completely different deal and one you never agreed to. Some people ask about your past because they care, and some ask because it is interesting.

It is fine to answer with less than everything: that was a rough year, I do not really talk about it. No apology, no promise to explain later. Save the whole story for the few who earned it by how they handled the smaller things.
