Planning to get even keeps you enrolled in a situation you had finally escaped. Every hour spent on the perfect comeback is another hour that person holds your attention without doing anything to earn it. It feels productive because it takes effort, but the effort goes into a course you already walked out of.

When you catch yourself rehearsing, name what you actually want. Usually it is for it not to have happened, or for someone to know it was unfair. Neither arrives through the plan. Tell one person you trust, then put the hour somewhere that pays you back.
