Opening the oven every two minutes doesn’t make it bake faster. It lets the heat out. Same with your goals.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Constant checking interrupts the thing it is checking on. Every time you stop to measure progress you stop making it, and you end up judging an unfinished result and changing the plan on the strength of it. Some things need a long stretch of unmeasured time before there is anything real to look at.

Set a checking schedule and hold to it. Once a week for this goal, once a month for the bigger one, nothing in between. Between checks, the only job is the work. A surprising amount piles up while you are not staring at it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which goal do you check on so often it stalls?
