The party looked amazing in the story because nobody posts the forty minutes of standing around.

What gets posted is the eight seconds that looked good, selected from an evening that also held queueing, awkward conversation and somebody wanting to go home by ten. You are setting a full experience of your own night against a cut of theirs. No ordinary night has ever won that comparison.

If a story makes your evening look thin, remember you are watching a trailer. Ask that person on Monday what the night was actually like and listen for the standing around. Judge your own by whether you enjoyed it, not by how it would have filmed.
