Excitement blinds you almost as well as anger does. Sleep on the big yes too.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Strong feeling narrows what you can see, and it makes surprisingly little difference whether the feeling is good or bad. Excitement hides the costs, the timing and the small print in exactly the way anger hides the other person’s point. Plenty of regretted decisions were made while grinning rather than while furious.

Give good news the same waiting period you would give bad news. One night, or a week for anything large. Write down what would have to be true for this to work, then check in the morning whether it still is.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which excited yes should you sleep on before answering?
