Envy is annoying but useful. It points straight at something you actually want.

Envy is a crude instrument with accurate aim. You do not feel it about everything, only about the specific things you want and have not admitted to wanting, which makes it one of the more honest signals you get. The discomfort is the price of the information.

Next time it shows up, finish the sentence out loud: I want that. Then look closely at what it actually is, because it is usually smaller and nearer than the whole life you were envying. Someone else having it is not proof that it is taken.
