Ask yourself “why” until the answer gets uncomfortable. That’s where the real reason lives.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

The first reason you give yourself is almost always the presentable one. Ask again and it gets slightly more honest, and again and it gets specific. Around the fourth or fifth pass you hit something you would rather not have found, and that is the actual driver. Comfortable answers are built to stop the questioning.

Take one thing you did this week that you feel odd about and ask why five times in a row. Write each answer down so you cannot quietly reuse one. Stop when it stings, because that is the level where changing something would change anything.
