Move first and you show your hand. Sometimes the strong play is letting them play theirs.

Going first means committing before you know anything. Whoever waits gets to see what the other side wants, how much they are willing to give and where they are nervous, all of which is free information. Patience is not passivity here. It is the choice to spend less and learn more before you decide anything.
In your next disagreement or negotiation, try asking what they had in mind before you say your own number or position. Then actually wait for the full answer. You can always move after they do, and by then you will know which move is worth making.
Do you always move first, or can you wait them out?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
