When everyone’s rushing toward the same shiny thing, look at what they left behind.

Attention moves in herds, and wherever it goes it creates crowding: more competition, higher cost, less room. What it leaves is the opposite, an area with the same value as before and almost nobody in it. Being interested in the unfashionable thing is not contrarian. It is just noticing where the space is.
Look at what everyone around you is chasing and then at what they stopped doing to chase it. The instrument nobody plays now, the subject that emptied out, the job nobody applies for. If any of it actually appeals to you, you will have little company and a lot of room.
What is everybody around you rushing past right now?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
