A sandcastle gets washed away every time, and kids build them anyway. That’s the right attitude about most things.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Building something you know will not last is not naive. It is the correct response to nearly everything, and a kid at the beach is not confused about how tides work. The building was always the point, and the finished castle was never the payment.

Apply that to whatever you keep postponing because it seems temporary. The club that ends in June, the friendship with somebody who is moving, the project nobody will remember. Start it already knowing how it ends. That is the deal everyone has always had, and people keep building anyway.

Would you start something with no chance of it lasting?
