You’ll only see a few thousand sunsets in your whole life. Looking up from your phone for one isn’t too much to ask.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Things that repeat daily feel unlimited, and almost none of them are. The real count is finite and large enough that no single one ever feels urgent, which is exactly why they all get skipped. Free and available is not the same thing as infinite.

Catch one this week on purpose. Step outside for four minutes at the right time and do not take a picture of it. That is the whole practice, and it transfers to anything ordinary and repeating: the walk home, the first cold morning, somebody laughing in the kitchen.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When did you last look up at the sky on purpose?
