Start a tradition. Pizza on the first Friday, a dumb holiday photo, anything. In twenty years it’ll be “what we always do.”

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Every tradition your family has was started by one person who did something twice. There was nothing sacred about it the first time, and it only became load bearing because somebody kept it up until missing it felt wrong. The content genuinely does not matter, which is why so many of them are ridiculous. Repetition is what converts an ordinary Friday into the thing everybody comes home for.

Start one this month and make it easy enough to survive a bad week. Same food, same day, same stupid photo. Then do it again next month without asking anybody whether they feel like it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What repeatable ritual could you start this month with your friends?
