Half the internet runs on code written by people nobody’s heard of. Useful beats famous.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Most of what holds the world up was made by people with no profile at all. The systems you use every day rest on work done quietly and maintained for years by somebody whose name appears nowhere you would think to look. Recognition and usefulness are separate axes that get confused constantly, because only one of them is visible. Chasing the visible one is the worse bet, since it depends on other people and can be taken back.
Choose usefulness once this week over the version that looks better. Fix what nobody wants to fix, take the dull part of the group project, let somebody else present it.
Would you still do the work if nobody learned your name?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
