Praise from people who always give praise carries no information, however good it feels. Somebody willing to say the chorus is not there yet is spending something, because they risk your reaction to help the work. That is rarer than talent and much rarer than encouragement. It is also the only kind of feedback that can move the next draft.

Ask one person whose taste you respect what specifically is not working, and make it easy for them to be honest. Do not argue with the answer in the moment, just write it down. Then bring them the next version, because that is how you keep them.
