One hard day is a data point. Don’t draw a trend line through a single dot.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

One bad instance says almost nothing by itself, though it feels conclusive while you are inside it. Every ordinary process includes days that go wrong, and reading a direction into a single point produces conclusions the evidence cannot support. What you need is repetition before interpretation. A dot is not a line.

Before concluding anything about yourself, wait for the second and third point. Ask what the last month looks like rather than the last day. If a pattern really is there it will still be there next week, and then it deserves a response.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

How much evidence do you need before calling it a slump?
