An exhausted person can mistake numbness for peace.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
When you have been depleted long enough, the noise of stress dies down and the quiet that follows can be mistaken for calm. It is not calm, it is a reduced capacity to feel much of anything, and it tends to come with a flatness toward things you used to care about. The relief is real and the state underneath it is not rest.
If your peace has come with a loss of interest, treat that as worth attention rather than as a success. Look for whether joy comes back after real rest. That is the difference between recovering and shutting down.
