Sometimes the door opens on the fifth knock because the person inside finally believes you won’t stop.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Persistence carries information. Anyone can ask once, so a first request tells the other person almost nothing about how much you want it or whether you will follow through. Returning, politely and with something new each time, is often what turns a no into a yes, because it changes what they know about you.

If something matters, plan the second and third approach before the first one is refused. Space them out and bring a new reason or a better version rather than the same ask. There is a line between persistent and pestering, and it is mostly about whether you are adding something.
