Cut a corner at work and someone always finds the corner. Usually on a Friday.

Shortcuts get discovered at the least convenient possible moment, because that is when systems are under load and everyone is trying to leave. The person who finds it is rarely you, which means you lose control of how it gets explained. What would have taken twenty minutes to do properly becomes an afternoon of other people’s time.
If you know where you cut something, go back and close it before anyone else arrives at it. Say so if it affects other people, since telling them is far cheaper than being found out. Where a shortcut is genuinely worth it, write down that you took it.
Which corner did you cut that someone later found?
