Would you rather look good at practice or actually get good? You rarely get both on the same day.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Practising comfortably and practising usefully look different from the outside. Staying where you are competent produces a clean session and very little change, while working at the edge of what you can do produces failure in front of people and most of the improvement. You generally get to pick one per session.

Choose one part of the next session to be visibly bad at. Work on the thing you cannot yet do, accept looking clumsy for twenty minutes, and keep the polished version for another day.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

At practice, are you trying to improve or to look ready?
