Caring openly about stuff in a culture of “whatever” is basically a superpower.

REFLECTION
Detachment is cheap protection. If you never admit you want something, nobody can watch you fail to get it, and a whole social style has been built out of that defense. Open enthusiasm breaks the arrangement, which is why it unsettles people and also why it draws them.
Say what you actually like without the protective shrug attached. Let yourself be the person who is visibly excited about a band, a subject, a plan. The small cost is looking uncool for a moment; the return is finding the people who were waiting for permission.
Which enthusiasm of yours gets hidden behind a whatever?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
