The piece can flop without you flopping. You made a thing; you are not the thing.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Work you made carries your attention and your hours, so a bad reception feels personal by default. It is still an object out in the world being judged on its own terms, and its failure describes that object rather than your capacity. Separating the two is difficult, and it is also the skill that lets people keep making things.
When something lands badly, write down what specifically did not work in the piece. Keep the sentence about the thing rather than about yourself. Then start the next one soon, because the fastest way to stop identifying with one piece is to have another underway.
Which failure did you treat as a verdict on you?
