Originality is mostly paying attention longer than everyone else did.

Most people look at a thing for as long as it takes to name it, and then they move on. What reads as a fresh eye is usually just a longer look: the second and third minute, where the obvious description runs out and the real detail starts showing up. Nobody is handing out rarer material. They are handing out the same material to people who stop early.

Choose one ordinary thing this week and stay with it past the point of comfort. Write down what you notice after the first easy observations are gone.
