A bad boss can control your schedule. They don’t get a say in the quality of your work.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Someone else can set your hours, your tasks and how little credit you get for them. What they cannot reach is the standard you hold while doing it, because that belongs to you and follows you out the door. Letting bad management lower your work feels like refusing to be exploited, but the skill you fail to build is yours alone to lose.

Separate what you are owed from what you are becoming. Keep the second one intact while you look for a better place to spend it. Let the resentment be about the conditions rather than the craft.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where have you let someone else set your standard?
