Pilots run a checklist before every single flight. Being good never means skipping the basics.

Expertise increases the temptation to skip verification and does nothing to reduce the need for it. Skilled people make errors in the same places everyone does, usually while distracted or confident, and a checklist catches exactly those. Treating the routine steps as beneath you is how competence quietly turns into risk.

Write down the four or five things that must be true before you begin whatever you do often. Run them every time, including the times you are sure. The point is that it works when you are not paying attention.
