A childhood room can become smaller while the memories inside it keep growing.

The room stays roughly the same size and you do not. Returning to a childhood space produces that odd doubling where the physical thing has shrunk while what happened there has expanded into something much larger than the space could plausibly contain. The mismatch is disconcerting and it is also proof of how far you have come.

If you get the chance to stand in such a room, stay a moment longer than is comfortable. Notice both the smallness and the size of what it holds. Both are accurate.
