Show up on the Sundays you don’t feel it. Feelings follow faithfulness more than they lead it.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Feeling and commitment run on different schedules, and if you only act on the first one you will be inconsistent by definition. Showing up without enthusiasm is not hypocrisy, it is the ordinary shape of any long practice, and the motivation tends to return partway through rather than before you leave the house. Waiting to feel it usually means waiting indefinitely.

Decide in advance rather than each morning. Go on the flat weeks, sit through it, expect nothing dramatic. Look at the pattern over months instead of grading each individual Sunday by how it felt.
