End the call with “love you” even when it’s rushed. You never know which call the universe is counting.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Rushed goodbyes are the default because there will obviously be another call. Almost always there is. The reason to say it anyway is not fear of the exception. It is that the sentence costs a second and lands somewhere, and habits like that get built in ordinary conditions so they are already there on the days that turn out to matter.

Put it at the end of the next call even though it is hurried and slightly awkward. If your family does not talk that way, find the version you can say out loud. You will not regret the ones you said, and that is a simpler calculation than most.
