Give some credit to the kid who started with zero proof. Everything you do now stands on their nerve.

Everything you can currently do was started by a version of you who had no evidence it would work. That person went first, looked foolish, kept going through the stretch where they were obviously bad at it, and had none of the reassurance you now take for granted. Confidence today is mostly a loan taken out on their nerve.

Be kinder about that earlier version when you look back. Then notice that you are in the same position again for something else, since whatever you start now will be embarrassing for a while. Going first is the price of ever being any good.
