Checking the clock every five minutes in class doesn’t make it go faster. It just makes you live in a clock.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Watching time does not move time, and it converts an hour into an experience of waiting rather than an hour of anything. Each check resets your sense of how slowly it is going, so the more often you look the longer it gets. The lesson is happening either way. You are only choosing whether to be in it or in the clock.
Put the clock out of sight for one class. Give yourself a job for the hour, such as writing down three things you did not already know. Occupied attention is the only thing that reliably makes time behave.
Which hour of your day do you spend just waiting?
