You do not have unlimited emotional bandwidth simply because everyone’s need is legitimate.

Everyone’s need can be real and you can still run out. Emotional capacity is finite in the same way that time is, and the legitimacy of the demands does not expand the supply. When it is exceeded, what people get is a depleted version of your attention that helps nobody, including them.

Notice where your care is currently going and whether any of it is arriving properly. Choosing where to be genuinely present is not coldness. It is the only way anyone gets the real thing.
