Protect new habits like passwords. Don’t hand them to the first person who says “just skip it tonight.”

New routines are fragile in a specific way. They have no history behind them, so a single well-meaning suggestion to skip tonight can end something you have spent five weeks establishing, and the person making the suggestion has no idea what it costs. Protection is not rudeness, it is just a recognition of how thin the thing still is.
For the first couple of months, decline the interruptions without a long justification. Say you have something on. Once it has roots, you will be able to miss a night without consequence.
Who talks you out of your habits most easily?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
