Sometimes growth means going back and apologizing to people you hurt as an older version of you.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Becoming someone better is not only forward-facing work. Part of it is looking at what an earlier version of you left behind and deciding whether any of it can be acknowledged. That is uncomfortable precisely because you can no longer claim you did not know. An apology offered late is still worth more than one never offered at all.

If there is a person you keep thinking about, write what you would say before deciding whether to send it. Keep it free of explanation and free of requests. Then judge, without hurrying, whether it would help them or only relieve you.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who deserves an apology from you that is years overdue?
